Regional Premiere of ‘Friends With Guns’
A Short Leap Theatre Company is producing the regional premiere of Stephanie Allison Walker’s Friends With Guns. This is the long awaited Chicago premiere of this play. Fun fact, I was originally cast as the understudy for the role of Leah back in 2020 but due to circumstances regarding the originally producing company, the production never came to fruition. So when auditions came around for this 5 years later, I thought I’d audition and I ended up being cast as Leah!
This play has stuck with me since I first read it back in 2020. As the title suggests, one of the plays topics deals with guns. It challenged me as a reader and will no doubt challenge audiences, as well. It’s a sensitive topic, yet is a part of our every day lives. I believe it’s a very necessary play for today. Stephanie has crafted a play that is worth seeing and discussing and I hope we can do it justice!
About Friends With Guns:
You think you know your friends, your neighbors, your spouse; but what happens when you suddenly find out they have a garage full of guns? This new dark comedy explores the complicated issue of gun proliferation when two young liberal couples are forced to confront their assumptions about who should own a gun and why. This long-awaited Regional Premiere forces audiences to reexamine our strongly held beliefs about gun ownership.
